What changed
CapitalOS was positioned as institutional fundraising infrastructure — governance, diligence materials, and process discipline for OSG's own raise. Further scrutiny surfaced a gap: better fundraising documents don't make a company more institutional, they make the same gaps look tidier.
Alternatives considered
- Keep the fundraising-infrastructure framing and continue refining what it covers.
- Reposition CapitalOS as a tool that predicts or improves fundraising outcomes directly.
- Reposition around capturing and compounding institutional intelligence from every fundraising cycle, independent of outcome.
What was decided
Adopt the third option. CapitalOS captures what a fundraising cycle reveals about governance, documentation, and readiness gaps, converts it into remediation, and carries the intelligence into the next cycle. It does not promise funding.
Why
A tool that implies funding outcomes makes a claim no methodology can responsibly make. 'Better documents' doesn't address why companies are institution-ready or not. Framing around compounding intelligence, independent of any one cycle's outcome, is both more honest and a better description of what can actually be evidenced.
What evidence informed it
A direct strategic instruction, arrived at through continued adversarial scrutiny of the prior thesis — the same process that produced the original repositioning.
What happens next
Reviewed once OSG completes its first full fundraising cycle. Graduation criteria were revised alongside this decision: no longer gated on a closed round, but on evidence the capture-remediate-improve loop functioned across a real cycle.
